finding home project

actually finished this waay back in february. mid-february to be more precise. finally, here it is! (+ aww yeah!; finally set up a vimeo!)

finding home from aly de la cruz on Vimeo.

What does it mean to be lost or displaced?

Objects like people need context and vice-versa. Or do they?

Is it possible for a person to be 'out of context' (in other words, 'somewhere they do not belong').

These objects are symbolic of the notion that cultural artifacts are loaded with history, tradition, and values that may be construed as old fashioned or simple.

Like theses objects, people can find themselves being forced into categories. The old and the young are among those pushed to the edges of society, marginalized and forced to make lives for themselves on somebody else's terms. That said, we noticed a commonality between elders and youngers; it is a common assumption that young people are the ones that eventually have to leave the nest. But the same can be said for elders.

People forget that in many cases some are forced to leave the homes they have spent so much time building, and that everyone is just trying to build a home for themselves in this world.

People are being shoved out of the private sphere and thereby thrust into the public. Human beings are being socially constructed as junk.

We invite you to walk with us.

N.B. this piece is actually just one piece of a video art installation. the film is meant to digitally project down into a shallow box (located at arm's level) holding all four objects. that's right!; the objects are meant to be projected onto and viewers are meant to touch the objects to make for a less passive, more tactile experience.
